Rabbi Mendel Reichberg, American Jew, president of the American Society for the Preservation of Jewish Cemeteries and Historic Objects in Poland, visited Mayor Marek Fryźlewicz today. Purpose of visit? The rabbi wants to renovate the entire Jewish cemetery in Nowy Targ. The association has money for it. There are only three objective obstacles: 1. The mayor is not competent authority when it comes to issuing permits. 2. The cemetery is owned by the Jewish Community in Krakow, which must (and I hope it will!) Agree to the renovation. 3. A construction or stone company that undertakes this must have special conservation rights.
